Jessica Alba, Hollywood Star Turned Tech-Entrepreneur, is Speaking at beLAUNCH 2013

We are honored that Jessica Alba, alongside serial entrepreneur and co-founder of The Honest Company, Brian Lee, will be travelling to Seoul to speak at beLAUNCH, May 1st-2nd, 2013. Alba is best known for her successful acting career which includes major roles in the box office hits Sin City, Fantastic Four, and Little Fockers. With several top awards and a host of high-profile movie nominations, not to mention box office takings of $900M, her Hollywood ‘A List’ status is unquestioned.

However, she will be putting Hollywood aside to speak at beLAUNCH 2013 about the struggles and joys balancing the setting up and running of her own company, while bringing up two daughters and continuing her work with non-profit organizations.

Some have raised an eyebrow at a Hollywood star talking about the hardship of getting a startup off the ground, but Alba’s passion for what she does is the only reason her venture progressed beyond ideation. The Honest Company was the natural progression of her active involvement in a raft of organizations that promote family well-being, a cleaner chemical industry, and children’s health, spurred on by her own difficulty in finding baby products she could trust. The idea of starting a company focusing on these concerns eventually lead her to the concept of The Honest Company and her story is one that can inspire all entrepreneurs, as she explains how passion, hard work and relentless dedication are more important than dollars in realizing an entrepreneur’s dream.

After eight months of preparatory work with Christopher Lavigan, who has done extensive research on the effects of toxic chemicals on children’s health, Alba approached Brian Lee to join her in co-founding The Honest Company. Brian, also a father of young children, understood her mission and determined an online subscription service as the most effective way to market.

The Honest Company launched in January 2012 as a mission driven e-commerce venture that delivers safe, eco-friendly products for babies, children, and the home. Alba aims to create a ‘friendly, healthy and sustainable future’ in the baby & child industry, all while providing the best quality products at an affordable cost. She believes her company’s success is grounded having a clear mission and pursuing it strenuously to success, with excellent partners. She also believes that an important element of the corporate culture is building a community of customer stakeholders, who have a deep influence on product choice and development, as well as on the lean business model, which has been adjusted to make her products more widely available.
