The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of South Korea has come up with a proposal which would enable faculty members and students of South Korea's leading tech universities to take a break from teaching and studying to set up their startup, reports MK Business News.

As per the proposal, faculty members who have started up will be able to extend their break to 6 years at the longest and hold their startup job titles permanently while working at the University. Students can benefit from 8 semesters of leave from their courses.

This initiative will apply to South Korea's five science and  technology universities:

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH)
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST)
Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST)
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST)

As of now, GIST and UNIST do not permit students to take leave of absence to set up startups, while KAIST, DGIST and POSTECH allow four semesters at maximum.

The ministry will hold a public hearing and receive feedback from faculty members and students about the guideline at KAIST in Daejeon on Wednesday reported MK Business News.
